Event: 20180308-030518

230.At approximately 7:05 PM Pacific Standard Time (2018 March 8 3:05 UTC), a fireball was reported by eyewitnesses in the Pacific Northwest. Based on these accounts, the NASA Meteoroid Environment Office currently estimates that the meteor was first seen at an altitude of 51 miles above the Tacoma area, specifically McNeil Island in Carr Inlet, moving slightly north of west at 31,000 miles per hour. it apparently fragmented 30 miles above Skokomish, Washington, though the numerous reports of loud booms - which are often produced when a large bolide (fireball) fragments - suggests that the break up occurred lower in the atmosphere than indicated by the eyewitnesses. The only video available shows a bright fireball through clouds, precluding a size estimate at this time.
