Event: 20180619-020520

This event was reported over West Virginia by approximately 30 eyewitnesses and was also captured by two NASA all sky meteor cameras in Pennsylvania and Ohio. An analysis of the video data from these cameras indicate that the fireball - which occurred at 10:05 PM Eastern Standard Time (2018 June 19 02:05 UTC) - began at an altitude of 58 miles above the Pennsylvania town of Washington. It progressed towards the southeast at 75,000 miles per hour, finally ablating at an altitude of 53 miles. The orbit and light curve of this meteor suggest that it was produced by a cometary fragment about 2 inches in diameter and weighing about an ounce.
