A bright fireball was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses in the MidWest (Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and Arkansas) at 8:39 PM Central Daylight Time (2018 August 28 1:39 UTC), It was also recorded by an EarthCam in St. Louis, and by a few amateurs. Analysis of the available data indicates that the meteoroid causing the fireball began to ablate 55 miles above the Missouri city of Carrollton, moving to the northwest at 39,000 miles per hour. It finally vaporized at an altitude of 40 miles above the small town of Union Star, northeast of St. Joseph. This meteor was an Earth grazer - it lasted a long time - over 7 seconds - and had a shallow entry angle of 10 degrees. No meteorites are expected to have been produced from this object.
