About 60 eyewitnesses in Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia reported seeing a fireball on March 31st at 11:41 pm EDT (2019 April 1 03:41 UTC). The meteor was also captured in two still images by a camera at Nanjemoy Creek Observatory, and in one image by a camera at the University of Maryland. The meteor appeared to be a little brighter than the planet Venus; its diameter would have been about 2 inches and its weight about half a pound. Analysis of the eyewitness accounts and Nanjemoy Creek images indicates that the meteor began to ablate 43 miles above the ground, less than two miles west of the community of McDaniel, MD. It traveled SW across part of Chesapeake Bay, covering almost 50 miles before burning out 14 miles above the community of Swan Point, MD.
