On August 18, 2020 at 9:46 PM Eastern Daylight Time, over 100 members of the public in the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and New Hampshire, as well as in Canada, observed a fireball the brightness of a crescent Moon. It was also detected by 2 NASA all sky cameras in Ohio, along with EarthCams sited at Algonquin Park and Franklin Pennsylvania. Analysis of the video shows that the fireball was produced by an object 4 inches in diameter weighing about 3 pounds. It first became visible 56 miles above Muncy Valley, Pennsylvania, traveling to the northwest at 46,000 miles per hour. The meteor fragmented at an altitude of 37 miles above Monterey Baptist Church, in southwestern New York. The event was very close to the horizon in the NASA cameras, which prevented the determination of a good orbit, so the nature of the object producing this meteor - cometary or asteroidal - remains unknown.
