There are numerous reports on the American Meteor Society website of a fireball seen November 4, 2022 in the Pacific states at 7:28 PM Pacific Daylight Time (2022 November 5 2:28 UTC). Analysis of these accounts places the fireball over northern California, with the first sighting occurring when the meteor was 48 miles above the town of Fort Jones. Moving to the south at 32,000 miles per hour, the object causing the fireball only managed to travel 29 miles in the upper atmosphere before fragmenting at an altitude of 28 miles above the hills just to the west of Callahan.
Unlike most of the sightings reported this week, this meteor was not part of the Taurid meteor shower.
