Well over one hundred eyewitnesses in Canada (Ontario) and the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin have reported sighting a bright meteor on Sunday, February 19, at 7:51 PM Central Standard Time (2023 February 20 01:51 UTC). The event was also captured by 2 meteor cameras belonging to the NASA Fireball Network and 2 cameras belonging to the Southern Ontario Meteor Network (SOMN), operated by Western University in London, Ontario. Analysis of the video data indicates that the fireball was first sighted 52 miles above the Michigan town of Henderson, moving slightly north of west at 48,000 miles per hour. The object – a small asteroid fragment 5 inches in diameter weighing just over 4 pounds – disintegrated 21 miles above Sidney, after traveling 58 miles through the upper atmosphere.
