Numerous eyewitnesses in the states of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire have filed reports with the American Meteor Society of a bright fireball seen at 6:57 PM Eastern Daylight Time last evening (November 2). An analysis of their accounts, combined with information from the World Trade Center and Onset EarthCams, indicates that the meteor first appeared 65 miles above a point in the Atlantic Ocean 81 miles from Smith Point on Long Island. Moving south of east at 116,000 miles per hour, it traveled some 83 miles through the upper atmosphere before disintegrating 49 miles above the ocean.
