Many eyewitnesses in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee have filed reports on the American Meteor Society website of a bright fireball seen Saturday (2023-03-03) night at 7:20 PM Central Standard Time. An analysis of their accounts combined with data from the NASA meteor camera at Marshall Space Flight Center shows that the meteor first became visible at an altitude of 47 miles above the Alabama town of Natural Bridge, moving north of east at a relatively slow 29,000 miles per hour. It disintegrated 27 miles above Vinemont, having travelled 55 miles through the upper atmosphere. This event was not part of any meteor shower, nor did it produce meteorites on the ground.
