Many eyewitnesses in the states of Washington and Oregon and the Canadian province of British Columbia have filed reports on the American Meteor Society website of a fireball seen at 9:57 PM Pacific Daylight Time on the night of May 8. An analysis of these accounts indicates that the meteor was first sighted at an altitude of 52 miles above Pitt Lake in British Columbia, moving to the northwest at 45,000 miles per hour. It disintegrated 32 miles above Cloudburst Mountain, having travelled 50 miles through the upper atmosphere.
