Numerous eyewitnesses in the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas have filed reports of a bright fireball seen over Oklahoma at 9:53 PM CDT on the night of June 1. An analysis of their accounts indicates that the meteor was first seen at an altitude of 56 miles above the town of Coalgate, moving to the northwest at 67,000 miles per hour. It disintegrated 39 miles above St. Louis in the Seminole Nation, after having traveled 60 miles through the atmosphere. We thank the American Meteor Society for providing the eyewitness reports.
