Over 100 eyewitnesses in the states of Oregon and Washington, as well the Canadian province of British Columbia, have filed reports on the American Meteor Society website of a bright fireball seen on the night of March 28 at 8:34 PM Pacific Daylight Time (2026 March 29 03:34 UTC). An analysis of these accounts and the available videos of this event indicate that the fireball became visible at an altitude of 50 miles above the Washington town of Wilkeson. Moving northwest at 39,000 miles per hour, the meteor managed to travel 43 miles through Earth’s atmosphere before disintegrating 30 miles above Wauna, on the north shore of Carr Inlet. This fireball was not a member of any currently active meteor shower.
We thank the American Meteor Society for providing the eyewitness reports.
