Many eyewitnesses in the states of Oregon and Washington have filed reports on the American Meteor Society website of a bright fireball seen on the night of August 30 at 8:32 PM Pacific Daylight Time (2026 August 31 03:32 UTC). These accounts have been combined with data from three publicly accessible cameras in Washington and Oregon to produce a trajectory solution, which places first visibility of the meteor at an altitude of 52 miles above the western slope of Mount St. Helens. Moving west at 48,000 miles per hour, the object managed to travel some 80 miles through the upper atmosphere before disintegrating 33 miles above Astoria. This fireball was not associated with any meteor shower and meteorites are not thought to have been produced when the object fragmented.
